Friends in Business
Shannon Laackmann of Psychic Cowgirl
Shannon Laackmann, Psychic Cowgirl and intuitive counselor, was here to talk with us a bit about how to create change in our lives by overcoming the blocks that hold us back. She gave us tips for tuning in to our intuition and learning to trust our own guidance systems so that we can get unstuck and start moving our lives and businesses in the direction we want them to go.
During the call, I also mentioned Joel Osteen's first book, Your Best Life Now: 7 Steps to Living at Your Full Potential.
Friends in Business
Betsy Talbot of Married With Luggage
Then we talked in depth about an article I read on Penelope Trunk's blog entitled, "Frugality Is a Career Tool." I called on Betsy Talbot of Married With Luggage to have a conversation on the topic of frugality and how it can help us reach our goals, both in life and in business. Betsy and her husband Warren are saving up and paring down in order to build a life by design, and part of that new life includes a three-year trip around the world that starts this October. In order to make the trip possible, Betsy and Warren had to make some adjustments to their lives and that included becoming more frugal and learning to spend their money on things that meant the most to them, so we talked about points that Penelope makes within her article and how Betsy and Warren are applying those things to their own lives.
During the call, Betsy mentioned a documentary entitled Herb and Dorothy.

Quote of the Week
To Open Shop Is Easy
I think it's a Chinese proverb. To open a shop is easy, to keep it open is an art.
Seeing a business to success is a lot of hard work. There's so much to be done, so much to be learned, so it's important to learn as much as you can from the resources that are available to you, resources like this show, what's available at UpstartSmart.com, and the sea of information available online.
Inevitably, there are going to be some things to figure out that are unique to your situation and business, but if you can avoid reinventing the wheel in certain areas of your business, take advantage of those opportunities so that you save yourself time, money, and a whole lot of frustration.
Good luck with your business, and I'll see you back here next week.
- Amber
